TEACHERS
Teachers are our most important partners, together, we empower students to tackle the challenges of the future through international collaborative learning and real-world engagement. Join us in inspiring and preparing the next generation of global citizens.
The first step in the MMUN journey is to become an MMUN School Coordinator by attending our 2 day certification course onsite or online.

A program to inspire global citizens of all ages
Youth for a better world is committed to giving young people a voice and shaping opportunities for young people to realize their own power. We scaffold developmentally appropriate programs that create the global citizens the world needs now.

United Nations
01
Research: provides the context for which students will be operating during a conference. They develop a profile of the country they will represent and identify their country’s perspective concerning its policies.
02
Practice: students participate in a “working session” committee experience with other student ambassadors to learn and practice Rules of Procedure, improve their public speaking and negotiation skills, and make new friends
03
Writing: taking on an ambassadorial role, students develop a position on each committee topic which will address their country’s needs, and then write position papers.
04
Conference: at this culminating event, students participate in formal multi-day committee sessions as ambassadors of their countries where they work together to draft resolutions which will be shared with the Secretary-General of the UN.
01
Student delegates participate in meetups where they interact socially with peers from around the world who will be at the final conference event
02
Teacher and Parent Coordinators preparing students for the final conference event meetup to “check in” on preparation milestones and to exchange best practice ideas with each other
03
Students simulate committee procedures during practice “working sessions” on topics relevant and familiar to youth experience encouraging engagement without advance research
01
Delegates share their solutions within their actual committees during a culminating conference event, negotiating with others during formal and informal consultations to create consensus around a draft resolution. With the support of 30% or more of the delegations, the committee moves to a line by line review of the draft resolution.
02
After completion of the line by line review, the chair requests whether there are any objections to an adoption by consensus. If there are any objections, the committee moves to a vote.
03
The delegates vote silently and anonymously for three country delegations to represent the committee’s resolution at the Closing Ceremony. They determine their selections based on the work and spirit of certain delegations to bring the committee discussions into a draft resolution format.
01
The peer-selected Closing Bureaus from each committee present their resolutions and announce the results in the presence of their parents and teachers. They celebrate their collaboration in this unique moment, as well as the opportunity to have a lasting effect on the world.
02
The results of this experience extend beyond the experience itself: young people develop sensitivity to the problems of the world and a vocation for activism from an early age.
03
Children develop the awareness that they are a real resource for solving the world’s problems.
PROGRAM COMPONENTS
Working Sessions
The students participate in two Working Sessions in English where they apply committee protocol to pressing societal questions with their peers, engaging them to think creatively about global issues that specifically affect young people while gaining confidence in the process.
Student Meet-ups
Students become socially familiar with the MMUN international peer community while they have fun together at social events like Community Meet-Ups where they have informal exchanges and do activities which contribute to their sense of belonging to a larger international community beyond their classroom.
COORDINATOR MEETUPS
Teacher and Parent Coordinators registered for the program, also have the opportunity to meetup twice within the year to discuss best practices with MMUN staff and other coordinators who are also preparing students.
YLP WORKSHOPS
Parents, Observers and Chaperones are supported with workshops on topics such as Fostering Global Ambassadorship, Practicing Negotiation Outside of Committee, which offer guidance for how to help their student delegates as they prepare for committee debate and negotiation.
Optional activities
Get creative with a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)! Each conference is dedicated to a specific SDG, which becomes the theme of the SDG Design, Songwriting experience, and Cultural Performance Night. Learn more about this conference’s specific SDG below to influence your design, songwriting submission, and cultural performance!
Conference
To culminate the program, students attend an international conference of their choice where they work together and socialize (over 8 days for an online conference and 4 for onsite conferences). The final result is a transformational experience as they negotiate with their peers on the solutions to world problems, witnessing the impact of their voices and vision.
WHAT WE DISCUSS?
The topics for debate are aligned with the United Nations Agenda for the year of each conference. MMUN selects relevant topics for each committee. Topics are also associated with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the United Nations Member States in 2015 with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Meaningful Student Impact
Students are changed through the process of becoming an MMUN delegate. Representing a country is a very real activity for a young person, not just a simulation, and they discover that they can become active in solving real-world problems. That discovery lasts a life-time.
