Working Sessions
The students participate in two Working Sessions in English where they apply committee protocol to pressing societal questions with their peers, engaging them to think creatively about global issues that specifically affect young people while gaining confidence in the process.
Student Meet-ups
Students become socially familiar with the MMUN international peer community while they have fun together at social events like Community Meet-Ups where they have informal exchanges and do activities which contribute to their sense of belonging to a larger international community beyond their classroom.
COORDINATOR MEETUPS
Teacher and Parent Coordinators registered for the program, also have the opportunity to meetup twice within the year to discuss best practices with MMUN staff and other coordinators who are also preparing students.
YLP WORKSHOPS
Parents, Observers and Chaperones are supported with workshops on topics such as Fostering Global Ambassadorship, Practicing Negotiation Outside of Committee, which offer guidance for how to help their student delegates as they prepare for committee debate and negotiation.
Conference
To culminate the program, students attend an international conference of their choice where they work together and socialize (over 8 days for an online conference and 4 for onsite conferences). The final result is a transformational experience as they negotiate with their peers on the solutions to world problems, witnessing the impact of their voices and vision.
CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
INTRODUCTION AND OPENING CEREMONY
Delegates meet on day one for an online orientation, introductions, ice-breakers and a review of Rules of Procedure. After that, a Celebration of Nations kicks off the Opening Ceremony where they hear Inspirational words from UN Ambassadors along with stories shared by young social entrepreneurs and activists.The delegates are inspired and energized for the next days’ committee sessions.
COMMITTEE SESSIONS START
The committee floor opens for delegations to present their speeches for the first topic on the agenda. The delegates express their positions and listen to the opinions of others, engaging in formal and informal discussion, negotiation and collaboration with an aim to produce a draft resolution that will be passed by consensus.
COMMITTEE SESSIONS CONTINUE
The committee continues its work on the first topic, meeting in informal small groups to formulate their solutions into working papers which will be molded into the formal wording of a draft resolution.
COMMITTEE SESSIONS CONTINUE
After a pause between committee days, the committee reconvenes to finish discussing topic one and then moves into speeches to discuss the second agenda topic.
COMMITTEE SESSIONS END
Continuing their engaging discussions and negotiations, a second draft resolution is produced by the committees and either passed by consensus or voted on. Each committee elects Closing Bureaus made up of three delegates to represent each topic.
CLOSING CEREMONY AND CELEBRATION FESTIVAL
The conference comes to a close with a Closing Ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of all committees and listen to the summary presentations of their resolutions, motivating talks by Ambassadors and youth leaders, and inspirational songs by delegates teaming up with grammy nominated Alexander Star. Following the ceremony, delegates celebrate party-style with DJ Ephniko and Star leading the way and capture snapshots of their excitement as they personally meet Star during a “virtual autograph” event.
“Fun” is the name of the game throughout the conference as it is sprinkled with ways to interact socially with peers from around the world. Submit creative designs surrounding the conference SDG theme for a contest, turn home-made flag artwork into a virtual background to use during committee sessions, share cultural music and customs with peers, submit personally recorded dance challenges, and apply to participate in a song-writing workshop to create music that expresses goals for solving world problems.
