The Youth Impact! Forum is the result of a young MMUN delegate who, right after his very first MMUN conference in New York, approached founder Judith Cunningham and said, “Now that I know, I need to do something. But I don’t know how to begin.”
Judith knew it was our responsibility to show him how to begin. For the past three years, under the guidance of Judith, Francesca Forestieri and Gabriel Forestieri, the MMUN team has been honing the tools, the curriculum, and the resources so that that young delegate (and thousands of delegates like him) can “do something.” Through their YIF training, young people will not only know they can do something, but they will have the skills and the support to bring their humanitarian projects to life.
MMUN has supported this intensive development with capital and personnel, resulting in the creation of a program which promises to create a new generation of social entrepreneurs.
The YIF event you are attending is only the tip of the entrepreneurial iceberg. The projects presented are from the first group of teachers trained in the YIF curriculum. Since then we have trained (or will have trained by year’s end), fifty teachers. Many of their schools are already planning on incorporating YIF into their curriculum. There are plans in place to bring the YIF program to high school communities in ever-growing numbers in order to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through the development and implementation of realistic, achievable programs.
YIF is the next generation of development after MMUN, and it is already being recognized as an important step in developmental learning. Your support of MMUN and of your MMUN delegates has made YIF possible. We are all engaged in working together to help youth create a better world.
