The first time I heard about the Montessori Models United Nations was in April 2018. I was asked by the university for the availability to attend a conference that would take place in Rome during the first days of May. Initially, I thought about the difficulties I would have had in relating to people belonging to all nations, but at the same time, I was convinced that it would be an experience of personal growth. The days of the conference passed quickly. I immediately felt at home. The best thing was to meet new people and share with them every single moment of the day. We have created a united and cohesive group and the greatest hope is to continue to keep in touch with such special people. During the days of the conferences, I was lucky enough to be able to attend some debates inside the classrooms. It is exciting to note that children in primary and secondary schools are so sensitive to certain topics. It is wonderful to know that children during the days of the conferences have the opportunity to expose themselves by showcasing their knowledge. There is an exchange of opinions, ideas, and cultures that excites those who are listening to them. I am sure that this experience has enriched and improved me in many ways. I was surrounded by wonderful people for four days. Being a group often helps in the performance of tasks and makes everything pleasant and peaceful. From this experience, I learned that teamwork is the key to success. Every task assigned to us included collaboration with others. You are never alone. Every task is explained in detail to be able to do the best. Volunteering helps to grow, especially if it is done with preparation and passion. I am really grateful to the staffers for guiding me and supporting me throughout the whole experience. If they ask me to repeat this experience, I would certainly answer yes. It is gratifying to be able to be in contact at the same time with the whole world. Each child chooses to represent a different nation, studying in depth the problems that afflict it and the solutions to propose to obtain an improvement. Every child is available to save a nation. Every child at the end of the experience is enriched and different. I wish everyone the chance to have a similar volunteer experience. I was impressed by the precision with which everything was organized. My experience with MMUN continues thanks to an internship that I have the honor to do with them. I feel I’m growing a lot, all my knowledge is growing and improving day by day. What I expect is to reach those capacities and goals that still seem too difficult for me. Thanks to the support of the MMUN Team I hope to reach my full potential and accomplish the goals I set out for myself.

It was an enriching experience to be a volunteer for the Montessori Model United Nations conferences in New York and to work with a professional and courteous team. I was inspired by the delegates’ knowledge of world affairs through the conversations I had with them. The conferences focus on raising awareness on global issues, which is the notion of Education for Global Citizenship, a concept I am passionate about, through its sessions and interactive dialogue. The positive and friendly atmosphere of the conferences also made the experience memorable. If given the opportunity, I would volunteer again for future conferences and encourages other individuals to participate as well. I commend the organization for its efforts in building a peaceful world.
