March 15th and 16th, 2013 - For Upper Elementary and Middle Schools

MMUN is pleased to announce the first Midwest Regional Montessori Model United Nations Conference (MMUN) on March 15 and 16, 2013.  This exciting two-day United Nations (U.N.) simulation program gives Montessori Upper Elementary and Middle School Students a unique opportunity in peace education.

The Montessori Model U.N. program simulates the work of the U.N. systems.  At the conference, student delegates represent U.N. Ambassadors and work together to develop resolutions for some of the world’s toughest issues. Unlike most Model UN Programs, which are competitive by nature and designed for High School and College students, Montessori M.U.N. program is non-competitive and is designed for upper elementary and middle school students. 

As a peace education program, MMUN integrates well into the existing Montessori curriculum.  Students broaden their knowledge on today’s global issues as they prepare to represent their country.  They also engage in Global Citizenship:

¨     Through in-depth research, learn their country’s culture, history, and political position.

¨     Through debate, develop critical thinking, critical listening and speaking skills.

¨     Through resolution writing, learn to negotiate, build consensus, and resolve conflicts.

The MMUN Teacher Workshop 

Your school and staff will get the necessary support for successful MMUN participation by attending a MMUN Teacher Workshop. The workshop, recognized by AMS as Continuing Professional Development, gives teachers new to MMUN a variety of strategies necessary for successful preparation of their MMUN student delegates. The MMUN Teacher Workshop is a required component to attend a MMUN Conference.
